The Washington, DC Flight Restricted Zone

A flight plan is required for any flight that operates, originates or terminates in the FRZ.   This includes flights to and from the MD3 airports as well as flights operated to DCA under the DASSP program, or under an FAA waiver for medivac, law enforcement, photo, survey, and similar purposes.

These flight plans MUST be filed via telephone to the FAA Leesburg ARTCC at 703-771-3476.  This number is ONLY for filing.  It is NOT an AFSS facility and they will not have access to weather or NOTAM briefing information, nor any prestored information or flight plans that originated at AFSS.  This facility will retain your information though, so it will be available in the future.  Also, you can save time by emailing your filing data and frequently-used flight plans to 9-ZDC-ARTCC-FDU@FAA.GOV.  Put the aircraft tail # in the subject line.

For VFR operations, pilots have the option of filing an abbreviated flight plan that specifies only the point of entry into the SFRA and the destination, which is the minimum required to meet FRZ security requirements.

This facility cannot provide weather/NOTAM briefings or take VFR ASAR/Flight Following requests.  For those instances contact AFSS at 800-992-7433 or use the AFSS.com web portal.
